How long can the coal last?

Above is a photo of a large piece of North Dakota coal currently in the Lignite Energy Council’s office in Bismarck. This piece of coal will begin disintegrating almost immediately upon exposure to the dry, indoor air.

We are holding a contest to guess how long it takes for the piece of coal to break down enough that it drops from the chain. The person who guesses closest to the date of the coal falling will be the winner of a Shower Manager.  The Shower Manager is another way to help reduce your overall energy consumption.  The other submissions will be put into a drawing to win one of three Amazon Echo Dots.
